Manpower: 6% of Honolulu employers to hire in 3Q - Denver Business Journal:

From July to September, 6 percengt of the companies interviewed in the Honolulu metrpo area plan to hire more while 11 percent expect to reducetheirf payrolls, according to the survey from Milwaukee-based MAN). Seventy-eight percent expect to maintain their currenyt staff levels and 5 percent remain uncertaimn abouthiring plans. Hiring is expected to be a littlse lighter than in thesecond quarter, when 10 percen of companies surveyed plannex to hire and 12 percent expected to cut said Manpower spokeswoman Mary Lou Callahan. For the comingy quarter, job prospects in the Honolulu area appear best in wholesalee and retail trade and leisureand hospitality.
Employers in durable goods manufacturing, nondurable goods manufacturing, information, professional and businesx services, education and health services and governmen intend to cut Hiringin construction, transportation and financial activities and otherf services is expected to remain unchanged. National survey results showe d little change from thesecond quarter. Of the more than 28,000 employers surveyed acrossthe country, 15 percent expec t to increase their staff levels durinb the third quarter, while 13 perceng expect to reduce their payrolls. Sixty-seven percent expect no changes in hiring and 5 percent are undecided abouttheir third-quarter hiringg plans.
“The data shows continued hesitancyamon employers,” said Jonas Prising, presidentg of the Americas for “They are treading slowly and watching with guarded hoping a few quarters of stability will be the precursoer to the recovery.”
