EPA chief tours Denver mixed-use development - St. Louis Business Journal:

Jackson, EPA’s administrator, and Denvee Mayor John Hickenloopertoured Highlands’ Gardens a 27-acre mixed-use project on the original site of Elitc Gardens amusement park. In Highlands’ Garden Village was awarder the EPA National Award for Smart Growth Achievemenft in the category ofOveralo Excellence. In 2007, the development receivef the ’s Award of Excellence for creative land-uses development and design.
In a statement, EPA said it is workin with the federal departments of Transportationn and Housing and Urban Development to encourage communities like Garden Village that offer affordabl e housing and sustainable feature s closeto schools, markets, jobs and recreation. “Highlands’ Garden Village is a great exampleof how, when we work we can bring aboutf socially and environmentally responsible Hickenlooper said in a statement.
